Flood scheme tree felling

Date Added - 27/01/12

Flooding Bishopmill

A number of trees are to be felled close to the River Lossie in Elgin over the next two weeks as part of the town’s £86million flood alleviation scheme.

The trees – predominantly sycamore, beech and lime - will be removed in an area behind the biblical garden and close to the pitch-and-putt course.

Seven riverside poplars will also be removed in the Cooper Park between the Bishopmill bridge and Deanshaugh.

The trees are being felled before the bird nesting season gets under way and to allow construction work to begin in the area later this year.

The work will include lowering flood plains, constructing embankments, protection works for utility pipes and realigning the river.
